Historical Dance*

July 5-13
Faculty: Kaspar D. Mainz* and Dorothy Olsson*

Dance is an integral part of the Amherst Early Music Festival. Classes will be offered in Renaissance and Baroque dance and Baroque dance notation. This year's program includes classes, rehearsals, and the staged performance of Ariadne (rehearsals begin on Saturday, July 7). Classes will be held in wonderful dance studios at the college. English country dancing is available in the evenings. All levels of dancers are welcome. See also www.newyorkhistoricaldance.com

“The Historical Dance Program offers the opportunity to intensively challenge body and brain to learn the technique, step vocabulary and choreographic conventions of the Renaissance and/or the Baroque. I appreciate the Festival’s interdisciplinary approach to performance. I learn a great deal about music, period performance conventions, and various aspects of related history from faculty and participants in other disciplines.”
~Peggy Murray, Graduate Student (Dance), SUNY Brockport
