Concert Series 2011

All concerts will be in Evans Concert Hall, in Cummings Arts Center, at Connecticut College. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. unless indicated below. Admission is free for participants; $20 general/$15 students and seniors for evening concerts. Join us for madrigals in the courtyard before the concerts, and stay for post-concert receptions in the lobby.

Concert tickets will not be mailed. You may pick up your tickets at the door.
Tickets will not be sold online the day of the concert. In the very unlikely event that we sell out, we will update this site.

Fri. 7/15 Alessandro Scarlatti’s La Principessa Fedele

Staged opera with AEMF student singers, dancers, and orchestra. Drew Minter, director; Gary Thor Wedow, music director; Dorothy Olsson and Kaspar D. Mainz, dance directors; Ronnie Snader, costumes; Lawrence Rosenwald, texts.

A rare opportunity to hear many top early music performers in one evening. Expect the unexpected! Medieval to Baroque music, followed by the All-Workshop Collegium performing works by Giovanni Gabrieli, conducted by Michael Barrett.

The Flanders Recorder Quartet Tom BeetsBart SpanhoveJoris Van GoethemPaul Van Loey with Julianne Baird, soprano; and Lawrence Rosenwald, scriptwriter and narrator. World Premiere performance of the story of the Bassano family of wind players of Venice and London. Was Emilia Bassano the famous “dark lady” of Shakespeare’s sonnets?

Fri. 7/22 The Light of Spain in Music

Spanish sacred music of the high Renaissance joined voices and instruments to splendid effect. First modern performance of the Missa super fa re ut fa sol la by Cristóbal de Morales and the Magnificat by Juan Navarro using 16th-century instrumental parts. Douglas Kirk, director, with Susan HellauerGeoffrey Williams, and other Festival faculty singers, winds, organ, and harp.
