Week One July 5-12, 2015
– Please note that the LSA portion of the festival will take part during Week Two, July 12-19, of the festival
The first week at Amherst Early Music offers opportunities for lutenists to take part in the Baroque Academy. The Baroque Academy includes Baroque lute and theorbo this year for advanced players, including working with Richard Stone on solo repertoire, in ensemble, and accompanying singers.
Week Two July 12-19, 2015
The Lute Society of America Seminar East will again take part in tandem with Amherst Early Music and is an opportunity for players of all levels to take part. We will be offering classes for complete beginners of the lute as well as opportunities for the more advanced players. The faculty lined up for this coming summer is one of the strongest collections of lute faculty Amherst Early Music has offered in years. Nigel North, Eduardo Eguez, Christopher Morrongiello, Jason Priset, and Grant Herreid will all be on faculty this year. Grant Herreid has once again put together one of his outstanding lute song projects, The Celestial Lyre of Orpheus, which will be performed live at the end of the week including lutenists and vocalists enrolled in the project at the festival. Other classes will include: Beginning Lute, Italian & Spanish Grounds, The Music of Francesco da Milano, Renaissance & Baroque Lute Masterclasses, Mechanics of Playing the Lute, Robert De Visée and his Music for Guitar, Lute, Theorbo, and Viola da Gamba.
