Tuesdays, May 7, 14, 21, (NO CLASS May 28!) & June 4
7:00 - 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time
The last Tuesday series before the summer break, and we will be focusing on pieces that feature triple meter in the form of mensuration, color, or as proportion. While the duple mensuration C and its related forms has become one of the more predominant mensurations in the early 16th century, different ways of expressing triple groupings exist in this time period. This series will refresh the use of rules of perfection and also explain triple proportions notated with numbers or with the help of color sections.
A technical emphasis in regards to the mensural notation of the early 16th century continues to be ease of reading moveable clefs as well as ligatures. Sound files of the pieces are accessible for personal practice between classes. The early notation series will resume in September, after Festival, and summer break.
