Odhecaton Corrections & Changes                                  June 2005

A Note on the Corrections

In 2001 Amherst Early Music published an Anniversary First Edition (black cover).

In 2003 we published a First Edition, Revised (blue cover).

In 2005 we published the Second Edition (green cover).

The Anniversary First edition was produced under great time pressure.  It arrived in print with a number of mistakes; fortunately, relatively few were of the type that would affect how the piece sounds (wrong notes, wrong rhythms).  Some of these mistakes lingered in the First Edition, Revised.

In both editions there were also a number of less-important infelicities: ficta and brackets that had slid to the wrong place, wrong range indications, typos in the critical notes, off-center breve rests, mistakes in the original-notation incipits at the beginning of each piece.  Some of these were corrected in the First Edition, Revised, and the rest in the Second Edition.  All the mistakes affecting the music are listed below as errata, but only the more important of the infelicities are listed.

With each edition, David Fallows, General Editor, also made small revisions in his critical notes to include the results of the latest 15-century music scholarship.  For the Second Edition he has also written a new introduction.
