A performer of medieval, renaissance, baroque and contemporary music, Wendy Gillespie teaches early bowed strings and performance studies at the Early Music Institute of the Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. She has performed with ensembles ranging from Ensemble Sequentia to the English Concert, and she has participated in more than 80 recordings for harmonia mundi usa, EMI, Virgin Classics, BIS, Channel Classics, Avie, and other labels. As a member of the viol consorts Fretwork and Phantasm, Gillespie has toured the globe performing in concert and appearing on radio and television. She has shared two Gramophone awards and several other Gramophone nominations; many "Recordings of the Month"; and a French Grand Prix du Disque with her colleagues. Much in demand for workshops and seminars in early music performance in the United States and Europe, Wendy Gillespie is a member of the Higher Education Committee of EMA and the executive board of the Medieval Studies Institute at Indiana University, and she is Vice President of the Viola da Gamba Society of America.
