Marilyn Boenau, the Executive Director of Amherst Early Music since 2000, has decided to retire mid- year 2024 after 24 years of outstanding service to the organization. Marilyn, a professional early double-reed teacher and performer as well as professional administrator, has decided that the time has come to step back from her professional responsibilities.
Marilyn is a founding member of the Boston Shawm and Sackbut Ensemble and played bassoon with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik, Handel & Haydn, Boston Baroque and many others. She took over the leadership of Amherst Early Music after the Festival in 2000. During her tenure she has expanded the program offerings, increased the donor base and enhanced the organization’s financial security. She was instrumental in introducing the on-line classes that were a financial and artistic lifeline during the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, attendance at the Festival reached an all-time high.
The Board of Directors wishes to express its profound appreciation to Marilyn for all that she has accomplished and looks forward to the next phase of Amherst development. The Board is initiating a search to identify her successor.
